Welcome. I have made the decision to run as a member of the ADETA Board. I would enjoy participating on the ADETA Board so that I can learn more about the people involved in Distance Education, and meet new colleagues as well as contribute to the board as an educator with over 20 years experience in Adult Education. I would also like to bring a professional development viewpoint to the board to see how the needs and interests of educators are being addressed and can be addressed.

I have developed and trained in Learning Difficulties, Learning Styles, Essential Needs Assessments, Distance Delivery and Student and Teacher Success Strategies and Essential Skills Training. My teaching background includes Basic Education courses in Reading and English, and High School English Courses. As well I enjoyed working with students in the Work Experience, Leadership and soft skill development courses. Developing courses for online delivery is another area that has involved me in the last few years. I have developed and delivered in WebCT the High School English Curriculum for distance delivery as well as Work Experience 15, 35, and Leadership Courses. I have helped design and developed the Skills for Working Learning and Living online as well as piloted the Skills for Working Learning and Living in it new format. I was recently involved in the development of enhancement courses for the workplace.

My newest passion is working as the Professional Development Lead in the Teaching and Learning Centre of the Learning Resources Services at Bow Valley College. I am currently developing a PD Website for staff and faculty development. I hope to expand professional development’s contact to offsite staff and faculty and casual staff and faculty through an online interactive site.

The 3rd Annual knowTIPS Conference (March 28 - April 1) is just around thecorner!. Knowplace http://knowplace.ca offers this annual online conference to help
you turn theory into practice (TIPS). This conference brings together ecoaches, educational professionals and anyone who is interested in building their online skills. We 'learn through our fingers' as we join our Presenters for asynchronous discussions, live Elluminate presentations, hands-on workshops and tours. Sarah Haavind and Marsha West join us once again to continue our exploration into facilitation strategies to help focus online learning. Therese Weel and Tia Car Williams provide an opportunity to investigate the many online tools and software available today. Tapped In's own - BJ Berquist and Jeff Cooper are leading an evaluation of the TappedIn community for educational professionals. Session Descriptions and Biographies of Presenters for Online PD January 16, 2007

Title: Inquiry through Blended Learning Description: Participants in this Elluminate Live! session will engage in a dialogue about how a blended learning framework can be used to facilitate student-directed inquiry within higher education courses. The University of Calgary defines blended learning as a blending of campus and online educational experiences for the express purpose of enhancing the quality of the learning experience. Blended learning is seen as an opportunity to fundamentally redesign how we approach teaching and learning in ways that higher education institutions may benefit from increased effectiveness, convenience and efficiency. At the heart of blended learning redesign is the goal to engage students in critical discourse and reflection. The goal is to create dynamic and vital communities of inquiry where students take responsibility to construct meaning and confirm understanding through active participation in the inquiry process.

Biography: Dr. Norm Vaughan is the Coordinator for the Inquiry and Blended Learning program in the Teaching & Learning Centre at the University of Calgary. In this position he coordinates course redesign projects and provides support for the Faculty and Graduate Student Teaching Certificate programs. Norm is also a member of the Editorial Boards for the Journal on Excellence in College Teaching and the Canadian Journal of Learning and Technology. His teaching background includes graduate and undergraduate courses in educational technology, K-12 education in northern Canada, technical training in the petroleum industry, and English as a Second Language in Japan. In addition, he has been involved in several consulting projects with book publishers and higher education institutions to develop online courses and resources. He received his Ph.D. in Educational Technology from the University of Calgary and his current research focuses on blended learning and faculty development. Biography: Diane Clark is currently seconded to the University of Alberta Libraries from the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology as a Research Services Librarian. She is interested in online learning, instructional design and the integration of technology and information literacy into curriculum.

My name is Rod Corbett and I am currently serving as President of ADETA. I am posting this page to formally announce my intentions to run for re-election at the AGM on Feb 21, 2007.

I have been working in the field of adult education for 20 years in the roles of learner, instructor, technical support and instructional designer. I am now working at Mount Royal College as the Coordinator of Educational Technology Integration in their Academic Development Centre. I also teach at the University of Calgary a couple of online courses about instructional design.

During the short term (since June 06) that I have been serving as President of ADETA, I worked with the board to make several significant changes:

Changed the format of the Newsletter so that it is totally online using Web-based, Wiki, Blogs and RSS Feed technologies. These changes will make it easier for all members to contribute with less costs, so it can be sent out monthly.
Revise the membership fee structure so that anybody working in the field of distributed education can join and participate.
Revise the business model of ADETA to generate new revenues while eliminating the cost of individual memberships.
Helped to develop a new website for ADETA that will allow for all memberships to share resources, network with each other, and participate in an online community of practice. This ADETA wiki is a prototype of the new site.
Started the development of a library of recorded online Professional Development modules that members can access at any time.
Helped to fix many discrepancies within the various lists of members. I have been correlated all of the lists into one master membership list.
Opened up the membership to attract more new and active members. There are many people in Alberta that are working in the field of distributed/online learning that are not members. Sectors that we are targeting include K-12, corporate and public service educators.

I have good understanding of ADETA and it potential as a professional association as I served as President for two years from 1993 to 95 and past president with Terry Anderson as president for 2 years following. I also served as the Editor of the newsletter from 1997 to 2001.

I have pursued significant change in ADETA in order for it improve its value to it members and anyone working in the field of distributed learning. I feel that if such changes are not made that ADETA as an organization will soon perish.

My vision for the ADETA for the year 2010 includes:

Over 1000 members from all sectors of people in Alberta working in distance, distributed, online, blended or e-learning.
A website that will be based on Web 2.0 technologies allowing members to share resources, network, discuss and work in groups online.
A monthly abstract e-newsletter that will be emailed out with current announcements and highlights of newly posted resources on the website.
ADETA providing useful and accessible opportunities for professional development to all members.
ADETA advocating for the interest of members and stakeholders on important issues.

I seek a new mandate fro the membership of ADETA to continue to guide ADETA through the changes that we need to make in order to make this organization a viable, sustainable and useful resource to all of its members.

A Northern Perspective

Hello!!

Many of you will remember me as Janet Mundrick - however, I have changed jobs, locations and names.

I am currently employed at Northern Lakes College as Director of University and Professional Studies in Grouard Alberta. This is a move south for me; I have been with Aurora College in the NWT for the past six years, most recently as Coordinator of Distributed Learning and Technology.

Being a northerner, I have come to rely on ADETA and the opportunities it offers to all of us for professional development, networking and staying current with happenings in our field

It seemed to me that it is time that I give something back and would like this opportunity to serve you as a member of the ADETA Board. I can bring the unique perspective of northern members and northern students to the mix and would very much enjoy doing so.

I hold a Masters Degree in Distance Education and an MBA, both from Athabasca University and my area of special interest is the logisitcs and management of distance education, especially in rural and remote locations.
